Drying Out a Large Home in Haliburton

Recently, a husband and wife called us into their home for drying after a water leak. The house is located in rural Haliburton, about 1 hour and 20 minutes away from our store. So, our crew jumped in the van and trekked eastward for almost-120-km to meet the clients and restore their residence.

Drying the House Flood

Once we arrived, we began to assess the damage to evaluate the situation. Water had leaked from a reverse osmosis water system located on a large open concept kitchen island. The main floor of the house had custom pine wood floors throughout. The leak caused water to flow underneath the center island, damaging the pinewood floors around the island and the island cabinetry itself. Water then flowed through the subfloor and the drywall ceiling in the finished garage below.

Our crew used a specialty wood floor drying mat system called Dri-Eaz to dry the damaged wood floors and cabinets. We saved the flooring, potentially saving the insurance company thousands of dollars. If we couldn’t restore the custom pine floors, we would have had to pack out the entire main level of the home.

We completed the emergency water restoration in the Spring of 2021, and it only took a week to dry. The biggest challenge was the driving time as we were on-site daily to monitor and adjust the drying process. We are still waiting on decisions from the homeowner and their insurance company on rebuilding the garage ceiling. However, the client was very thankful for the work we could perform and our ability to minimize disruptions to their home.
