While the PuroClean Canada team, including Chairman & CEO Mark W. Davis, Vice-Chairman Frank Torre, and President Jason Reis, waited for the fire to finish its devastating path through Alberta, they began strategically planning how to best utilize PuroClean’s resources. The first immediate step was to transport the 53-foot PuroClean command trailer from Detroit to the Canadian Distribution Center for stocking and preparation.
From there, the plan of attack was as follows:
While coordinating everything from infrastructure planning to employee lodging, the team also strategized their outreach to insurance carriers. PuroClean ensured they secured favorable prices for franchise owners while keeping the needs of the grief-stricken community front and center.
Fort McMurray residents couldn’t return home for three to six months, so the focus shifted to commercial restoration. The first major job was The Wood Buffalo Brewing Company, one of the city’s largest restaurants. This project was secured through Travelers Insurance. Signal Restoration Services, a PuroClean partner and expert in large-loss restoration, guided local franchise owners in managing the job.
One of the biggest logistical challenges was finding housing for the 125 technicians and managers working in Fort McMurray. With hotels occupied by local government personnel, PuroClean Canada avoided the costly option of oil industry work camps. They partnered with friends of Edmonton North franchise owner Carol Parsons to find accommodations. They secured 25 fully furnished apartments in the least-affected part of the city.
The apartments were stocked with food, high-speed internet, and recreation equipment. Other essentials were also provided to support the team during the restoration process.
