Restoration in Huntsville Cottage Turns into Major Home Renovations
If you discover water damage on your property, it’s important to act fast! Whenever water sits, mould is more likely to grow because of the increased moisture levels in the air and on surfaces. We recently completed a big job at a cottage in Huntsville that had a leaky roof and two skylights. The work began as water damage restoration, but we discovered mould in several areas throughout the house.
Water and Mould Restoration for the Cottage in Huntsville
Our team drove out to the cottage, and the work began with a private mould inspection. We found additional water damage. Water damage was concentrated around the pine near the fireplace, as well as in other parts of the home. Meanwhile, we realized that mould was growing in numerous locations. We also found mould around two ceiling light fixtures in the upper living room.
But the scope was not limited to just that. We had a suspicion that there could also be asbestos present as the building was more than twenty-five years old. So, after carefully removing some ceiling-stippled drywall samples, we took them and sent them off to be tested by a licensed asbestos specialist. In fact, we found asbestos in the upper-level living room with a vaulted ceiling near the ceiling track lighting and ceiling fan.
Since the scope of the job was already fairly large, the client decided they wanted a complete renovation done, which extended our timeline for job completion. They asked us to install new pot lights (recessed lighting) and change the existing light fixtures, as well as to put six different air conditioning units in.
A significant challenge that we had to overcome was to find subtrades (construction specialists) who were available to assist us. Due to COVID, many subtrades were booked solid, and therefore we had to wait until they were available to proceed with the job. We also ran into difficulties getting materials and supplies due to COVID. So, we put the job on hold at one point until we could secure suppliers that could give us what we needed to complete the work. Our work is still ongoing, although we are almost finished. We’ve been working with the clients for about four months in an effort to complete the project.
