PuroClean Performs Biohazard Cleanup on Drug Den

Four people per day, on average, die from illegal drug overdoses, according to a special report released in 2019 by the Provincial Health Officer (PHO). Overdose deaths and illegal drugs have continued to rise in British Columbia and across the country. This prompted the PHO to declare a public health emergency back in 2016. Not only does illegal drug use negatively affect health, finances, and family, but it can also affect your physical property, requiring biohazard cleanup.

Biohazard Cleanup and Restoration Work Necessary for Rental Suite Turnover

We received a call from a local property management company to restore two units in a 36-unit apartment building in downtown Penticton. The previous tenants had been selling and using drugs in their homes, however, they were eventually evicted. Both units had multitudes of physical damage and strong, unpleasant odours. The condition of the units required full biohazard cleanup before the restoration could proceed.

Our emergency response team came to the apartment building first, since we knew the units had been used extensively for drug sales and use. We did not know which drugs and what we’d possibly find when we entered the unit. Our team had to take every precaution in case fentanyl, which can be deadly to touch or breathe, was present anywhere. We safely cleaned and sanitized everything. Then the re-build team took over the restoration work.

The re-build team worked diligently to not just restore the units to their original conditions, but make improvements as well. They had to remove and renovate cabinets, flooring, and more throughout the approximately 1,000 square-foot units. We had a strict deadline to complete the biohazard cleanup and restoration by July 1. Our incredible technicians worked hard and finished everything in late June – ahead of schedule! We are incredibly proud of our team and the wonderful job they did.
